Example 0

The schematic diagram of a heat exchanger producing three types of heat is illustrated in Figure 1. The input costs are allocated into the -stream, -stream, and -stream. Only the enthalpy method and the exergy method can be applied to the cost allocation. The enthalpy method does not consider the characteristics of the energy. Therefore, each unit cost using the enthalpy method is equal. However, it would be more natural that the heat unit cost at high temperature is higher than that at the low temperature. The exergy method satisfies this common sense condition. The results of the cost allocation are shown in Table 1.
